Association of Independent Broadcast Media of Kosovo - AMPEK $22,000 To foster media freedom and diversity in Kosovo by supporting independent and minority broadcasters. AMPEK will continue to defend the professional rights and interests of independent electronic media, promote reform and monitor implementation of the legal framework fostering a free and independent media sector, and advance cooperation and communication between Kosovo Serb and Albanian media and journalists. More than a dozen joint roundtables, trainings, and other meetings will be convened. Balkan Investigative Reporting Network Kosovo $55,000 To continue fostering public debate on key transition issues facing Kosovo, as well as promoting the transparency and accountability of its public institutions. BIRN will produce 40 television programs, including live debates, field reports, and interviews on important social, political, and economic topics affecting Kosovar citizens. The award-winning weekly program will be broadcast by the public service broadcaster RTK and available online at www.jetanekosove.com. Beta News Agency $26,400 To continue supporting key minority media in the country. NED support will subsidize subscription to BETA's general news service and audio services for five local radio stations of the KOSMA radio network, and its video services for four members of the Mreza TV network. Both networks target the Serb community in Kosovo. Center for International Private Enterprise $167,660 To improve transparency and accountability in Kosovo's public procurement system. Riinvest will conduct an advocacy and education program for the public and private sectors. Riinvest together with private sector partners will advocate for better implementation of public procurement legislation. CIPE and Riinvest will also provide better access to information on public procurement for the private sector by developing a toolkit and implementing a training program. DokuFest $45,000 To continue promoting new approaches to fostering democratic values and raising human rights awareness among youth in south Kosovo. DokuFest will expand its civic education program to four high schools in Prizren, Dragash, and Rahovec and adapt its educational package, which integrates documentary films into high school curricula, to the needs of Serb and Gorani students. In addition, DokuFest will establish and equip four cinema clubs and train 12 students in video activism. Forum for Civic Initiatives $45,000 To encourage the implementation of reforms necessary to improve the performance of the institutions responsible for safety and security, as well as to foster greater citizen participation in local decision-making processes related to security and the rule of law. Through a series of reports and events, FIQ will advocate for the implementation of new community safety strategies. In addition, FIQ will support 10 communities in developing local structures allowing citizens to play a more active role in addressing community security needs. FIQ will also provide a common framework for five local NGOs to assess the work of the local safety and security structures. INC Network of Radio Stations $37,500 To continue fostering crossborder media cooperation and interethnic dialogue through a network of local radio stations in Kosovo and Serbia. In cooperation with 17 independent stations from the two countries, the INC Network will produce a weekly radio program, a monthly debate and a television show. The 30 broadcast programs will provide alternative perspectives on important issues that the two countries are seeking to resolve through ongoing high-level dialogue. Institute for Advanced Studies GAP $44,000 To promote transparent and accountable local government institutions in Kosovo. GAP will gather and analyze information on the performance of local governments in each of Kosovo's 37 municipalities since the 2009 local elections. The nonpartisan findings will be published online and used as a platform for advocacy efforts, as well as to empower citizens to hold public officials accountable ahead of the fall 2013 local elections. Kosova Live News Agency $44,500 To continue promoting the accessibility of high quality, unbiased information. Kosova Live will provide its daily news service, available in Albanian and Serbian/Bosnian, free of charge to 20 local radio stations and four members of the TV network Mreza, which would otherwise not have access to independent sources of information. Most of the recipient radio stations either broadcast in a minority language or are multilingual, including several based in majority-Serb municipalities. Kosovar Center for Security Studies $39,600 To promote public oversight and the accountability of security and justice institutions in Kosovo at an important moment as the country prepares for the end of supervised independence and the withdrawal of the EU rule of law mission. To provide a better understanding of public perceptions regarding security and justice institutions, the KCSS will conduct focus groups and a survey measuring public opinion on and trust in these bodies, especially in minority communities. The resulting report, the first ever to be produced by a domestic organization, will identify perceived deficiencies, make recommendations for the improved performance of security and justice institutions, and be used to advocate for reforms required for Kosovo's closer integration with Europe. Kosovo Glocal $30,000 To continue to promoting democratic values among youth and encouraging them to address important social, political and economic topics related to Kosovo's democratic transition. The online magazine Kosovo 2.0 (www.kosovotwopointzero.com) will promote civic activism and provide a forum for open debate on issues affecting youth. Kosovo Glocal will use NED support to publish four issues of the e-magazine's print version, and produce the site's video content on youth in Kosovo. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs $40,000 To deepen the leadership and community development skills of exceptional Mitrovica youth who have participated in past NED-funded programs. NDI will organize advanced leadership training, connect participants with young Serb and Albanian leaders in the south through an internship program, and engage participants in the design and implementation of future community development and advocacy programs. Radio KIM $35,000 To continue providing objective information to Serb and other minority communities living in central and southern Kosovo. The station will expand its programming to include an independent video program of high quality, unbiased news and analysis of the work of Kosovar government institutions, thereby fostering an improved understanding of the decision-making processes and better communication between minorities and the local and national governments. TV PULS $35,000 To continue providing objective information to Serb and other minority communities in Kosovo. The station will use NED assistance to expand and improve the independently produced news and information segment of its popular morning program. By offering news coverage that provides greater insight into local and national government institutions and decision-making processes, TV Puls will contribute to the better integration of Serbs and other minorities into Kosovar society. Women Committee for Protection and Human Rights $24,000 To promote greater participation and representation of minority women in Kosovo's government institutions, especially ahead of and following the fall 013 local elections. The nonpartisan project will cover eight municipalities containing a high percentage of minorities and minority returnees. The Committee will organize two roundtables, eight consultative meetings, eight trainings, five advocacy meetings with relevant state institutions, and four televised debates on the equal representation of women in media and politics. Youth Initiative for Human Rights - Kosovo $51,800 To continue building trust and better understanding among youth in Kosovo by encouraging dialogue and promoting activism in local communities. The YIHR will provide financial and technical assistance to activists from different ethnic backgrounds to organize advocacy campaigns and work together on addressing local community challenges. Born Eliza Patricia Dushku December 30, 1980 (1980-12-30) (age 29) Watertown, Massachusetts, United States Occupation Actress Years active 1992–present Early life Dushku was born in Watertown, Massachusetts, the daughter of Philip R. Dushku, an administrator and teacher in the Boston Public Schools, and ex-wife Judith “Judy” (née Rasmussen), a political science professor at Suffolk University in Boston. Dushku’s father is Albanian American and her mother is of Danish and English descent. Dushku attended Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, and graduated from Watertown High School. She was raised a Mormon, the faith of her mother (though she is not actively practicing). She has three older brothers: Aaron, Benjamin (Ben, born February 5, 1976), and Nathaniel (Nate, born June 8, 1977, in Boston, Massachusetts), the latter of whom is a model and actor. Her parents divorced when she was still an infant. In 2005 she visited her father’s family in Albania after being personally invited by the president. While there she also visited the Albanian Community in Kosovo and got an Albanian Eagle tattooed on the back of her neck. Career Early career Dushku came to the attention of casting agents when she was 10. She was chosen at the end of a five month search throughout the United States for the lead role of Alice, playing with Juliette Lewis in the film That Night. In 1993, Dushku landed a role as Pearl alongside Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio in This Boy’s Life, a role that she said opened a lot of doors. The following year, she played the teenage daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies. She also had parts as Paul Reiser’s daughter in Bye Bye, Love, as Cindy Johnson with Halle Berry and Jim Belushi in Race the Sun, as well as roles in a television movie and a short film. Dushku took some time off from acting to finish her junior and senior years of high school. She was accepted to the George Washington University in Washington, DC and Suffolk University in Boston, where her mother serves as professor of government and previously served as dean of the campus in Dakar, Senegal. Later roles After completing high school, Dushku returned to acting with the role of Faith on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a Slayer much more troubled than the main character Buffy Summers. Though initially planned as a five episode role, the character became so popular that she stayed on for the entirety of the third season and returned for a two-part appearance in season four, after which the remainder of her original story arc was played out as part of the first season of the Buffy spin-off series Angel. Repentant and rededicated, Faith returned as a heroine in a number of further episodes of Angel and in the last five episodes of Buffy. Dushku was inundated with piles of fan mail from legions of prisoners. She said that: I’ve been getting fan mail from maximum security penitentiaries and death row. What are the authorities thinking of in playing a show with young teenage girls to Death Row inmates? They write everything — disgusting things that you don’t even want to know about. And they send me pictures — ‘Oh, here’s a picture of me before I was incarcerated!’ — and there’s some guy sat on the sofa with a bottle of beer and a moustache, and a big gut. It’s so creepy. Way more creepy than Buffy. In 2000, Dushku starred in Soul Survivors, reuniting her with Race The Sun co-star Casey Affleck. One reviewer described the film as “84 minutes of everyone’s wasted time.” She followed that up with the hit cheerleader comedy Bring It On with Kirsten Dunst. In 2001, she appeared in The New Guy with DJ Qualls and City by the Sea with Robert De Niro and James Franco. The latter film garnered attention from a wider adult audience and several good reviews. The same year, Kevin Smith invited Dushku to be a part of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, where she co-starred with Shannon Elizabeth, Ali Larter, and Ben Affleck. In 2003, Dushku appeared in Wrong Turn, a horror film in which she had the starring role, and The Kiss, an independent comedy-drama. Starting that same year, she also starred in a new Fox TV series, Tru Calling, where she played the main character, medical student Tru Davies. After having a grant pulled out from under her, Tru is forced to take a job at a local morgue where she discovers her power to “re-live” the previous day over again if one of the deceased asks for her help to change what has happened. Current projects On October 1, 2005, she announced at Wizard World Boston that shooting had begun for Nobel Son in which she would star with Alan Rickman, Danny DeVito, Bill Pullman, and Peter Boyle. The movie was released at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. Another project is On Broadway, an independent movie filmed in her native Boston. The movie is receiving great reviews and a few of them highlight Dushku’s performance. It is currently being shown in many independent film festivals and has already won six awards. Variety announced on August 2, 2006 that Dushku would co-star with Macaulay Culkin in Sex and Breakfast, a dark comedy written and directed by Miles Brandman. A reviewer described Dushku as “charming” and giving the character “an edge.” The movie was released in Los Angeles in November 30, 2007 and on DVD in January 22, 2008. She starred in Open Graves, a 2008 horror-thriller about a satanic game co-starring Mike Vogel. She will play the main character in The Thacker Case and The Alphabet Killer, both based on real-life events and upcoming thrillers, one of them directed by Rob Schmidt with whom she had previously worked on Wrong Turn. Both movies will be released in 2008. The Alphabet Killer contains Dushku’s first topless scene. The film earned mixed reviews, but reviewers praised Dushku’s performance, commenting “Eliza Dushku commands the screen but cannot reconcile the script’s conflicted and increasingly idiotic agendas.” She also appeared, along with Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Chris Pine and Rachel Taylor, in Bottle Shock, a drama about Napa valley wine. The film was directed by Randall Miller, who helmed Nobel Son. On August 26, 2007, Dushku signed a development deal with Fox Broadcasting and 20th Century Fox. Under the pact, the network and the studio develop projects tailor-made for the actress. They also approach her with existing pitches and scripts. Consequently, it was announced on October 31 that Dushku had lured Joss Whedon, famous for creating the Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly series, back to TV, as they agreed to create a new show called Dollhouse. Dushku played the main character, ‘Echo’, and served as a producer on the show, which aired on Fox during the 2008–09 TV Season. I had him on the brain for sure but I hadn’t called him yet, but I sort of took a leap of faith and set things up with Fox and then called Joss. We went to a four-hour lunch where I just sort of used my womanly wiles. No, we’ve become such good friends, kind of like brother and sister and kind of like he was my watcher, my handler from when I first moved out to L.A. when I was 17 and I was a little bit of a wild child. He’s watched me and helped me and taught me over the years. I told him how bad I wanted and needed him back and he accepted and here we are. Dushku described Whedon as “my favorite genius … favorite friend … big brother … and the only person out here I’ve ever wholeheartedly trusted, because he’s never let me down.” Dollhouse was renewed for a second season. The producers cited their confidence in the strength of Joss Whedon’s fan base and high DVR numbers as their reasons for keeping the show. FOX cancelled Dollhouse on November 11, 2009. The show officially wrapped filming on the second and final season on December 16, 2009. Dushku has been announced as the voice of contract killer “Rubi Malone” in the upcoming action video game Wet, alongside fellow actors Malcolm McDowell and Alan Cumming. Dushku secured exclusive rights to make “The Perfect Moment” and enlisted the help of Ondi Timoner. Lorik Cana is a defensive midfielder for Lazio. He was born on 27 July 1983 in Pristina, Albania. Lorik began his youth career at Lausanne youth academy located in Switzerland. Cana successfully passed tests for the most talented students and got into the youth team. During many years Lorik trained hard and played with Lausanne youth team at youth championships. In 2000 Lorik was scouted by Ligue 1 Paris Saint-Germain. After short talks the clubs agreed on Cana’s transfer to Paris club. From 2000 to 2002 Cana played for PSG youth team. Lorik’s professional career started in 2002. He signed for PSG and joined the first squad. During 3 seasons at PSG Cana made 69 appearances and scored 2 goals. The Albanian defensive midfielder was popular among the coaching staff who wanted to open up the young player’s full potential. 2005 was a turning point and the most successful stage of Lorik’s career. The Albanian joined Marseille and was made a key midfielder. During 4 years at the French club Lorik played 122 matches and scored 8 goals. In 2009 Lorik moved to English Sunderland. He was a key defender at the club with 31 appearances during the 2009/10 season. After the season was over though Süper Lig Galatasaray made an official request for purchasing the Albanian and after short talks Cana left for Turkey. During the 2010/11 season he scored 1 goal in 24 appearances for the Turkish giant. In 2011 Lorik signed for his current club S.S. Lazio. A natural performer from a young age, Rita attended the Sylvia Young Theater school and although she was always a talented singer, she landed her first role on screen in 2004 in the British film Spivs. She also auditioned to be on the BBC's Eurovision: Your Country Needs You to be a part of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, however feeling like she wasn’t ready yet she dropped out after just a few episodes. Jay-Z Discovery After school Rita began performing around London to hone her musical skills, and she first appeared on R&B crooner Craig David’s song “Awkward.” After performing for a while at local West London venues independently Rita was spotted by a Roc Nation representative who convinced musical tastemaker Jay-Z that he needed to see this singing ingénue – Rita was flown out to NYC where she knocked the socks off the Roc Nation president. Comuna Sapanta este asezata pe malul drept al Tisei in dreptul Vaii Tarasului, aproape de confluenta raurilor Sapanta si Tisa, in nordul extrem al Romaniei, in Tara Maramuresului,. Localitatea este situata la aproximativ 18 km distanta de Sighetul Marmatiei. Suprafata comunei este de aproximativ 150 km patrati si cuprinde lunci, terase, dealuri si munti. Asezarea este dominata de Piatra Sapantei, o formatiune vulcanica impresionanta. Atestata documentar in jurul anului 1300, cunoscuta in 1373 sub denumirea "Zapancha", localitatea Sapanta, parte a Maramuresului istoric, isi poate deriva numele, dupa afirmatia poetului Ioan Alexandru, de la latinescul sapientia (intelepciune). Cu o populatie omogena, romaneasca, localitatea era, la sfarsitul secolului XIV, proprietatea lui Stan, Petru, Toader, Tivadar si Dan, proprietate primita de la cnejii romani ca un drept ce li se cuvenea. Pe teritoriul sau exista izvoare minerale bicarbonatate, sodice, calcice, clorurate cu o concentratie ridicata de ioni bicarbonici. Localnici utilizeaza aceste ape in tratarea gastritelor, a bolilor gastro-duodenale si a colecistitelor (pentru acesta bioxidul de carbon este eliminat prin agitare). Localnici din Sapanta sunt cunoscuti in zona pentru obiectele artizanale ce sunt produse aici, pentru costumele populare si cergile realizate. Insa Sapanta a devenit cu adevarat cunoscuta in Romania si in strainatate datorita Cimitirului Vesel din localitate. Actualmente, Sapanta este una din marile si frumoasele comunitati rurale ale Maramuresului, care atrage, in toate anotimpurile, dar mai ales vara, un numar sporit de vizitatori din tara, din Europa dar si din indepartata Japonie, numele Sapanta devenind un reper intr-o geografie turistica mondiala.
