Cesare Prandelli interested in Tottenham job after 2014 World Cup campaign with Italy

The Italy coach is believed to have been contacted about taking over at Spurs although no official approach has been made with Tim Sherwood contracted until the end of next season Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has thrown his name into the hat to become the next Tottenham manager following initial discussions about his future beyond this summer’s World Cup in Brazil. The Italian was linked with a move to White Hart Lane when Andre Villas-Boas was sacked towards the end of 2013, and the Evening Standard is reporting that the Italian, who is almost certain to leave the national team after the World Cup, has been contacted about a new role at Spurs. The 56-year-old has a close friendship with Tottenham technical director and fellow Italian Franco Baldini, having spent time together at Roma in 2004. Prandelli was unable to take charge of a match with the Giallorossi though due to his wife falling seriously ill, with Baldini director of football at the club during Prandelli’s short time there. It is believed no official approach has been made to Prandelli, with Tim Sherwood given a contract until the end of next season, and Dutch pair Louis van Gaal and Frank de Boer also admired by the club’s chairman, Daniel Levy. Although he is philosophical about his own prospects of remaining head coach next term, Sherwood would make it difficult for Levy to ignore him were he to guide Tottenham to a place in the 2014-15 Champions League. It is thought , however, that Prandelli, 56, is keen to work in the Premier League and is understood to have responded favourably to the idea of moving to north London. Although his grasp of English is limited, the former Fiorentina boss and his coaching staff are said to have been working hard on their command of the language in recent months. Sources in Italy revealed the initial contact with Prandelli was made last December, the month in which Andre Villas-Boas was dismissed by the Tottenham board. Since then, it seems Prandelli has grown even more enthusiastic about the prospect of working in the Premier League and it is believed further soundings were made this month. Were the job offered today, it is likely Prandelli would accept. Since he led Italy to second place at Euro 2012, it has been expected that Prandelli would leave after this summer’s tournament in Brazil. An announcement was anticipated after Italy secured qualification last September but this was delayed. More light could be shed on the situation in the coming weeks, however, as Prandelli is due to hold talks with Giancarlo Abete, the president of the Italian FA, in mid-March. Prandelli is also likely to be asked about his future before Italy’s friendly against Spain on March 5. The final word will, of course, rest with Levy, a huge admirer of Van Gaal. The 62-year-old is scheduled to end his second spell in charge of Holland after the World Cup, and has always dreamed of working in the English top flight. If an agreement can be reached with the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach, he still looks the clear favourite. Furthermore, Baldini’s role is under scrutiny after he recommended the £30million, club‑record signing of Erik Lamela from Roma, which has failed to bear fruit so far. It is hard to imagine Spurs appointing an ally of Baldini if they are not convinced about the technical director’s long-term suitability for the role. Yet Prandelli remains an attractive proposition. He kept both Parma and Fiorentina in the upper echelons of Serie A during his time at those clubs, between 2002-10, and has enhanced his reputation as an outstanding coach through his work with Italy. Both AC Milan and Juventus had shown an interest in him earlier this year but Milan chose to appoint a rookie coach in Clarence Seedorf, while Juve are likely to press ahead with Antonio Conte, despite his occasionally combustible temperament off the field. Prandelli’s salary of about £2million a year before tax is substantially less than that of the top coaches in Europe, including Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger, and Prandelli would be happy to work at Spurs even if they did not qualify for the Champions League — as long as he had guarantees about being given time to implement his methods. Clearly, the presence of Baldini would be fundamental to any agreement. Manchester City v Barcelona: Champions League match preview

A look ahead to the midweek clash at the Etihad. A titanic confrontation as Europe’s two supreme attacking forces face off for a place in the quarter-finals. After the disappointment of previous European campaigns, Manuel Pellegrini has been able to do what Roberto Mancini never could: replicate City’s irrepressible domestic form on the continental stage. It will not be lost on Barcelona that in the group stages City were more than a match for Bayern Munich, who so comprehensively dismantled the Blaugrana in last season’s semis. Barca have plenty of European pedigree, having won this competition three times in the last eight seasons, but since the departure of Pep Guardiola their aura of invincibility has slipped. A shaky group-stage campaign, including a humbling defeat to ten-man Ajax, confirmed that Tata Martino’s side no longer bestride the European landscape quite as colossally as they once did. But Barcelona have abundant experience of big European nights like these, while Pellegrini’s arrivistes have none. And Lionel Messi and co remain a fearsome attacking contingent, with ten goals in their last two games underlining Barcelona’s continued potency. City will not fear their visitors. But they underestimate them at their peril.
KICK OFF: Tuesday, 7.45pm PAST MEETINGS: Barcelona 0 Manchester City 1 (Petrov),
Pre-season friendly, August 2009 STATS: Of the last ten Champions League meetings between English clubs and Spanish clubs, English clubs have won 4, with their Spanish counterparts claiming just 2 wins. Lionel Messi has scored 6 goals in his last 6 games against English opposition. Manchester City average 3.5 goals at home this season, the equal highest in Europe’s top five leagues, while Barcelona average 2.25 goals away. The last two goals scored by English clubs against Spanish clubs in the Champions League have both been own goals (Inigo Martinez for Real Sociedad, and Sergio Ramos for Real Madrid, both against Manchester United). In their last match (against Rayo Vallecano), Barcelona recorded more goals (6) than crosses (5), the first such instance in La Liga this season. ODDS: Manchester City to win: 2.87 Barcelona to win: 2.37 Draw: 3.5 TV: Live on ITV at 7.30pm, highlights at 10.35pm. Manchester City v Barcelona: The 10 most dangerous Barcelona players

We analyse the threats to Manchester City's hopes of progressing in the Champions League Manchester City entertain Barcelona in the Champions League this evening. The match is being billed as a meeting between arguably the two most attacking teams in Europe, and football fans are hoping for a match that meets those expectations. While there are suggestions Barcelona are not the team that dominated in Europe just a couple of years ago, there is no denying that they have a frightening array of talents at their disposal. Ahead of tonight's game, we pick out the 10 greatest threats from among their team that have the capacity to damage City's hopes of progressing through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Manchester City v Barcelona: The air of invincibility may have gone, but despite what Jose Mourinho says, Barcelona are still an incredible side

It’s been a busy week for Jose, taking down Barcelona as well Arsene Wenger. Even if, as Mourinho asserts, Barca come to Manchester in reduced circumstances, what remains is sufficiently potent to blow away most teams. This tie has cast City as star gazers hosting the great Leo Messi and his cast of champions. They are the new kids experiencing this elevation for the first time. Barcelona wandered into Manchester to the manor born, seeing out a routine engagement as if they were popping into the supermarket to pick up some groceries. No-one is asking Messi how he will cope with the City threat. The questions are all framed from the opposite perspective. I suspect we are about to discover how shallow are the interpretations of Barcelona in fading light. Okay, they have not won the Champions League since 2011, but it took a monumental fluke by Chelsea to knock them out at the semi-final stage in 2012 and a freak storm by Bayern Munich to flatten them at the same point last year. Mourinho throws aside the joint leaders of La Liga as they come off a 5-0 win in which Messi cemented his position as the greatest goal scorer Spain has known; take that Alfredo di Stefano, Johann Cruyff, Ronaldo, Romario, Ronaldinho, Raul, Cristiano et al. City froze when confronted by Bayern in the group stages at the Etihad. Yes they recovered brilliantly at the Allianz but in a dead rubber as far as Bayern were concerned. They have the tools to trouble any team, but will need to break free of the sense of occasion if they are to build an advantage against Barca, something they failed to do against Chelsea in the league as well as Bayern. Barca might have surrendered a little of the sense of invincibility they one projected but not their affinity for the ball. They still dominate possession like no other team in the history of the game in important matches, a feature City must disrupt tonight. As well as Messi, Barca can call upon the likes of Sanchez, Fabregas, Pedro, Tello, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and a bloke called Neymar. They can’t all play at the same time, of course, but they are all available and might just represent the best ‘worst’ team in the history of sport. History of Anti-Mafia Resistance in Italy is Subject of Documentary by Film Professor

The ongoing struggle by the residents of Corleone, Sicily, against the Mafia is the subject of a new documentary by Tony Fragola, a professor of broadcasting and cinema. The village of Corleone, best known to American moviegoers as the birthplace of the fictitious Mafia Don Vito Corleone of Francis Ford Coppola’s film “The Godfather,” is a place where villagers have long fought against the Mafia, said Fragola. The documentary, titled “Another Corleone: Another Sicily,” is a labor of love for Fragola whose is of Sicilian heritage and teaches courses in Italian Cinema. The picturesque 13th century village has been witness to hundreds of innocent people killed by the Mafia. Starting in 1990, the Italian government passed a law allowing it to confiscate lands owned by Mafioso and return them to local cooperatives. “The land is the real basis and symbol for the Mafia, especially in Corleone which is where the most brutal and bloody Mafia chiefs come from,” Fragola said. “If you claim the land and return it the citizens your have symbolically undermined the power of the Mafia.” Fragola will be on academic research leave in the spring of 2008 interviewing Corleone residents, especially women, who are fighting the Mafia’s destructive control. “A Beautiful Memory: A Mother and Her Sons Against the Mafia,” Fragola’s previous film, depicted the heroic struggle of Felice Impastato, a widow of a Sicilian Mafioso whose son Giuseppe “Peppino” Impastato was slain by the Sicilian Mafia for protesting against the group. The film was first shown last year in a demonstration against the Mafia in San Vito Lo Capo, a notorious Mafia stronghold and most recently at the Center for the Arts, College of Staten Island. Gascoigne – My Italian Job (Documentary)

With Paul Gascoigne once again hospitalized after excessive alcohol intake, right now is a good moment to look back to the days when Gazza was one of the world’s most celebrated players. This documentary reviews Gascoigne’s time at Lazio, perhaps the most turbulent time of his career. Gascoigne himself is interviewed quite a bit, so hopefully, you’ll be able to understand his northern accent. If not, all the footage makes it a worthwhile watch too. There’s enough action to make it clear what exactly Sir Bobby Robson meant when he said: Source http://www.4dfoot.com/2013/02/11/gascoigne-my-italian-job-documentary/

Milan overview

Milan was the Western Roman Empire's capital for a short but significant 109 years. Its position at the top was reconfirmed by Napoleon in 1786, when he declared the city his centre of the Cisalpine Republic. Rome was chosen, some say arbitrarily, as Italy's capital in 1861. But for most northern Italians, Milan is the country's heart. Milan is Italy's business capital, home to the country's stock exchange as well as its renowned fashion and design industries. But while people work hard, they play hard too. Whether you're up for eating or drinking, football or shopping, Milan excels at recreation. You won't be dashing from street to street ticking sights off a must-see list, as in Florence, but cultural gems are hardly few and far between. The city is home to Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper (Santa Maria delle Grazie & The Last Supper). Arguably the artist's finest achievement, it was miraculously spared from Second World War bombing as the building around it fell. Caravaggio's 'Basket of Fruit' hangs in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, while his 'Supper at Emmaus' graces the Pinacoteca Brera. The restored Duomo is a majestic Gothic folly that took half a millennium to complete. But the city's charms can also be understated: there are pleasures in its dusty churches, on the narrow streets of the Brera district, and in courtyards glimpsed through wrought-iron gates. The so-called Fashion Rectangle is lined with D&G, Versace and Armani boutiques, but you'll delight as much in the stores of local designers. There's not a seat free during the biannual derby at the San Siro Stadium, home to both AC Milan and FC Internazionale. The feast day of Sant'Ambrogio, the city's patron saint, is such a celebration that a massive street fair shuts down a whole neighbourhood. The date also marks the opening night of La Scala's opera season. On the flip side? The euro has caused the city to become more expensive. The pollution can be oppressive: on a good day, you'll see the Alps from the roof of the Duomo, but on a bad day, city driving is restricted according to number plates in an ongoing attempt to lower vehicle emissions. Local politics can be chaotic, with issues so complex that they're often unintelligible even to the Milanese. There are also those who claim that Milan is overly urban and unlike the rest of Italy. There may be some truth in this, but chatty barmen still serve cappuccinos with heart-shaped froth to their female customers, and the markets' vegetable vendors succeed in bringing the countryside to Milan and forcing the city slickers to slow their pace for a moment. Those who look beyond the glamour will discover a city that strides out in style. Locals look to the future, whether it be the 2015 Expo or next season's fashion catwalks. They just sometimes need tourists to show them what a treasure they have right here, right now. Source http://www.timeout.com/milan/features/23/milan-overview

Surfing the 'Bella Vita': New documentary explores surfing in Italy and one man's journey back home

Filmmaker Jason Baffa pictured with surfer/environmentalist Chris Del Moro at the North American premiere of 'Bella Vita' at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival last week. (photo by Brian Clifford) Filmmaker Jason Baffa received his first camera, a Super 8, when he was in grade school as a gift from his grandmother after his older cousin, Christopher, got him excited about film when he was 7 years old. More than 30 years later, the El Segundo resident has become a renowned surf filmmaker. His latest film, “Bella Vita,” made its North American premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival last week. With the documentary's star, surfer, artist and environmentalist Chris Del Moro, “Bella Vita” explores the burgeoning surfing scene in Italy while exploring the country's culture through its traditions. The film also follows Del Moro on a journey to his ancestral home with some friends along for the ride. Baffa and Del Moro met in 2008 when SBIFF screened Baffa's second documentary, “One California Day,” and Del Moro's film, “Sliding Liberia,” as a double header. Coincidentally in 2011, they reacquainted while vacationing in Bali. They bonded when they discovered they were both sons of Italian dads and still had strong ties to that culture. A film about surfing in Italy was discussed, but Baffa knew it would be a challenge. Yet at the same time he realized it allowed him to do “something more with the genre.” “As Chris told me more stories about his upbringing and splitting time between California and Italy, I knew there was something there,” Baffa said. “I really had to work on him to be the reluctant star. I think in his mind it was going to be more of an expose on the locals and the surf scene. I kept saying, 'Chris you’re the thread to this film, it’s your journey and your connection to surfing.' It introduces the audience to all these things. We might have something that could connect to more people. Part of that was letting the journey happen.” The journey began with a very tight budget when Baffa met Del Moro in Italy, in the surrounding areas of Pisa, in August of 2012. A very small crew joined them later including cinematographer Scott Kassenoff (who joined them a month in and stayed for 36 days) and camera assistant Jonathan Taylor (who they begged to fly over when they realized handling two 35mm cameras, two Super 16mm cameras and three HD cinema units were too much for two people). Dealing with the hefty equipment was one of many challenges Baffa and the crew had to face during filming. There was also the language barrier since Baffa knew little Italian. Through meeting new people and conducting “research with the camera,” Baffa and Del Moro discovered several ancillary characters, from winemakers to a violin maker, that added depth to the film. “I was always one step behind,” said Baffa because of the language barrier. “I enjoy telling stories with a camera, but I feel maybe my strength is trying to be one step ahead. So when you're one step behind you're just pulling your hair out. We would do an interview and I really wouldn’t know everything we got. It wasn’t until months later when we returned home with the footage and got transcripts that I really did know what was there.” Then there were weather complications. “I knew we’d get a couple (good) days if we were there long enough, but we had 22 days of rain and bad wind,” Baffa said. “I was really depressed about it.” Baffa filmed for 108 days, and halfway through that Kassenoff arrived with the 35mm cameras to film most of the surf scenes. While they were waiting for the cameras for a month, Baffa and Del Moro were able to get some of the nuts and bolts of the documentary figured out. Baffa knew he wouldn't get the spectacular surf footage comparable to some surfing locations around the world, but at the same time he needed footage that would survive the scrutiny of surfers worldwide. While at the mercy of Mother Nature, another challenge was trying to find the balance between the surf footage they did capture and the rest of the story, which Baffa feels is the strongest part of his film. “I liken it to a bit of a tight rope between the core surf audience and the non-surf audience,” Baffa said. “If you go to far one way or the other you're going to alienate. It’s incredibly challenging and that was the last layer of stress.” Baffa added, “If you want to get beautiful surf footage, go to Indonesia or Hawaii … I think we did end up getting some beautiful surf imagery, but for me as a film I never wanted that to be the weight of the film.” Baffa said the Italians welcomed them with open arms, even the surfers who at times can be territorial. “They were excited to share this thing they love so much,” Baffa said. “They were so happy that we thought surfing in Italy was worthy of a movie.” “Bella Vita” was also somewhat of a family affair when Conner and Parker Coffin joined the cast. The Santa Barbara natives are Baffa's nephews. “They are top-tier young professional surfers,” Baffa said. “It was funny having to talk to their agent about their schedule. They missed some contests to do it because they wanted to be part of it.” The Coffin brothers are sons of Baffa's sister Krista and her husband Richard, who Baffa credits for exposing him to surfing. Baffa came to surfing later in life when he was attending Loyola Marymount University and studying film production. “I became obsessed with surfing, which probably derailed my film career on some levels,” joked the 41-year-old, who did take a year and a half off from his day job of directing/filming commercials to film “Bella Vita.” While “Bella Vita” is in part about the appreciation of family, he had the difficult choice of leaving his 8-month-old son to travel to Italy. “I was turning down work, leaving my baby to pursue this passion project,” he said, but his parents, sister and his wife Linda were able to join him in Italy toward the end of filming. Baffa said he also has a different outlook on surfing since he has a family. “Now that I’m older I realize that surfing weaves into my life,” Baffa said. “When I was younger it was all about surf, chasing that and having fun. Now I balance it with family, having a child. I like the way the film does that, surfing is part of the fabric of Chris' life and it connects elements. It's used as a release at times, it's used for fun, it's a quest at other times to find that wave.” “Bella Vita,” according to Baffa, would never have been completed without the help of numerous people including his Italian friends who helped translate the numerous interviews; Giusseppe Maio, a film student and surfer in Rome who helped coordinate gear and rental house pick-ups; Nico Pinzauti and Piergiorgio Castellani hosted them when they arrived in Italy: and the Los Angeles producing team of Greg Schultz, along with Manhattan Beach residents Scott Griest and Anh-Thu Le, who flew over to Italy to lend a hand. Baffa hopes to have “Bella Vita” available in digital format and DVD by late spring with the possibility of screenings thoughout the U.S. and Italy before its release.  in the 2003-2004 season, when he was still only 16, Messi made his first team debut in a friendly with Porto that marked the opening of the new Dragao stadium. The following championship-winning season, Messi made his first appearance in an official match on October 16, 2004, in Barcelona's derby win against Espanyol at the Olympic Stadium (0-1). With several first team players seriously injured, the services of several reserve team players were called upon, and Messi became a regular feature of Barça squads. On May 1, 2005, he became the youngest player ever to score a league goal for FC Barcelona - against Albacete when Messi was only 17 years, 10 months and 7 days old.

He was offered the chance to play for the Spain national football team, but declined, prefering to wait for the opportunity to play for the country of his birth. In June 2004 he got his chance, playing in a U-20 friendly match against Paraguay. Lionel Messi wearing FC Barcelona's colorsIn June 2005 he starred for the Argentina U-20 team that won the Football World Youth Championship played in The Netherlands. Messi picked up the Golden Boot as top scorer with 6 goals, and the Golden Ball for the best player of the tournament. Despite his youth, Lionel has already drawn comparisons with Diego Maradona, arguably the best football player of all time. On September 25, 2005 Messi obtained a Spanish citizenship and was finally able to make his debut in this season's Spanish First Division. He had previously been unable to play because FC Barcelona had filled up all of their quota of non-EU players.

Messi's first outing in the UEFA Champions League at the Nou Camp was on Sept 28 against Italian club Udinese. He impressed with some great passing and a seemingly telepathic relationship with Ronaldinho that earned him a standing ovation from the 70,000-odd Nou Camp faithful. On December of that year, the Italian newspaper Tuttosport awarded him the Golden Boy 2005 title for the best under-21 player in Europe, over Wayne Rooney and Lukas Podolski In September 2005, Messi was given an improved and extended contract until 2014. Cristiano Ronaldo biography 1985-2014

Cristiano Ronaldo is the son of Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro (a cooker) and José Dinis Aveiro (a Municipal gardener). Many say that Ronaldo's humble family origins are the reason why CR7 manages to deal so well with the fame and spotlights he has nowadays. Cristiano Ronaldo has two older sisters, Liliana Cátia and Elma, and one older brother, Hugo.

Cristiano Ronaldo first steps in football/soccer were made in his amateur hometown club called Andorinha, when he was still 8 years old. A couple years later, CR7 moved to CD Nacional, one of the most known teams in Madeira, around his 10th birthday. But he didn't stay there for too long and the year after (1996), Ronaldo was persuaded to join Sporting Lisbon, one of the biggest clubs in Portugal.
It's now clear that 1996 was a turnaround year in Cristiano Ronaldo life. By joining Sporting CP, Ronaldo had to leave his family back in Madeira and start learning how to live on his own. CR7 trained with the youth team in the first years and in 2002, by the age of 16, he made his senior debut against Moreirense, in the Portuguese First Division. In that match, Ronaldo scored a brace and immediatly caught everyone's attention upon him. The European debut took place later on, in the UEFA Champions League qualifier match against Inter Milan.

By the age of 17, Cristiano Ronaldo really started to attract many attentions throughout the World, and his tremendous performances when playing for Portugal's Youth Team in UEFA's Under 17 Championship, made him one of the most promising stars of the moment. Among many other top clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal had some scouts on that tournament. Managers Gérard Houllier and Arsene Wenger were allegadly interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo. However, it was revealed later that both clubs got a bit hesitant on betting in such a young player and Manchester United ended up to rush things and sign Ronaldo in the 2003 pre-season.

The moment Cristiano Ronaldo definately convinced a top club to sign him, was after a 2003 pre-season friendly match, between Sporting and Manchester United, in the inauguration of the "Estádio José de Alvalade" in Lisbon. The Portuguese side defeated the Red Devils by 3-1 and United players were said to be stunned by Cristiano Ronaldo's technique skills as well as his natural talent and kept talking about it on their way home. Rumors say that Sir Alex Ferguson had a chat with his team players and then decided to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, in a transfer fee around 15 million euros (£12.24 million pounds).
Cristiano Ronaldo's adventure in England, started with a memorable debut for Manchester United, coming in as a substitute against Bolton Wanderers and playing for around half an hour. Those 30 minutes are probably still in the memory of many Manchester United fans, since CR7 stunned everyone in the stadium and impressed the traditional harsh English media, with his dazzling dribbles and runs over the wing. Ronaldo scored his first goal for Manchester United, by taking a curled free kick, in a 3-0 win against Portsmouth, in November 2003. However, and despite several promising starts, Cristiano Ronaldo's first two seasons in Manchester United received mixed reviews. He got praised for his technique and skills, but he often got criticised for lacking consistency and poor decision making on the field, which seems to be a natural thing at the age of 17 and 18.

In the year of 2005, Cristiano Ronaldo's father, José Dinis Aveiro, died of an alcoholism liver disease. Ronaldo was 20 years old and that was one of his most difficult moments of his life. CR7 is said to not drink any alcohol as a consequence of what happened with his father. In 2006 it was widely reported Cristiano Ronaldo and manager at the time Sir Alex Ferguson, had placed a £400 bet in which required the Portuguese international to score at least 15 goals that season. Ronaldo won the bet by scoring 17 goals... The following season, Cristiano Ronaldo and even some bookmakers upped the ante on their sports bet, with Ronaldo putting his hair on the line by promising to completely shave his head should he fail to score 20 goals. However, the bet was eventually declined by Ronaldo himself, after Sir Alex Ferguson requesting for the Portuguese to score 35 goals during that season.

Regarding the Portuguese National Team, Cristiano Ronaldo made his senior debut against Kazakhstan a few weeks later, just after being signed by Manchester United, in a match played in August 2003. CR7's first biggest tournament was the Euro 2004, organized by Portugal and Ronaldo managed to help his team reaching the finals, but ended up by being defeated by Greece. Cristiano Ronaldo photos in tears after the match were the Portuguese soul mirror that afternoon and those images got spread all around the World. A couple years later, in the World Cup 2006 played in Germany, Ronaldo was caught up in a very big controversy, after allegedly pressuring and influencing the referee to send off his Manchester United team mate and England's striker/forward Wayne Rooney, in the quarter finals clash between England and Portugal. Cristiano Ronaldo ended up being used as the scapegoat for England's defeat in the World Cup and the hatred towards him the following season, could be seen on every stadium the Red Devils had to play. English fans showed CR7 how much they got upset with the World Cup elimination and started insulting and "booing" Cristiano Ronaldo on every match outside Old Trafford. That situation made CR7 think about leaving England and Manchester United. However, Sir Alex Ferguson managed to convince him to stay and, against all odds, Cristiano Ronaldo surprised everyone with a great season in the English Premiership League. Ronaldo was quoted saying: "All the boos and insults just motivate me training harder and playing better".

In 2007, Cristiano Ronaldo won the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year Award and was also voted Footballer of the Year, by the Football Writers Association. That same year and for the first time, Ronaldo also made up to the top 3 finalists for both the FIFA World Player of the Year trophy and the European Player of the Year award. Cristiano Ronaldo kept on his outstanding form in the 2007-2008 season and scored 42 goals in all competitions (31 in the English Premier League), allowing him to be voted again for the PFA Player of The Year and the Football Writers Footballer of the Year. CR7 rising performances allowed Manchester United to win two titles that season, those being the English Premier League and also the UEFA Champions League trophy, in which Ronaldo scored a goal in the final, after a superb header.
The 2008 year was definately Cristiano Ronaldo glory year at Manchester United and after having won the UEFA Champions League, Ronaldo won the FIFA World Player of the Year (2008) and the European Player of the Year (2008). In the 2008-2009 season, Cristiano Ronaldo scored another 26 goals, which helped Manchester United to win another English Premier League title and reaching again the final of the UEFA Champions League, in which they ended by losing against Barcelona this time, by 0-2.
In 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo broke another record by becoming the World's most expensive football player, after transfering from Manchester United to Real Madrid in July 2009, in a £80 million pounds transfer (around 94 million euros and 132 million US dollars). That was an historic moment, and more than 80 000 fans received and welcomed Cristiano Ronaldo in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, during his official presentation. Ronaldo's career in Real Madrid started well, scoring plenty of goals on his first matches and only getting stopped by his first injury, in October 2009. However, CR7 recovered his form a few months later and still managed to score 33 goals on his first season playing for Real Madrid, which unfortunately, didn't prove to be enough for the club to win any trophies in the 2009-2010 season.
As for the Portuguese National Team, Cristiano Ronaldo captained Portugal at the 2010 FIFA World Cup played in South Africa, but the "Lusitanos" got eliminated in the last 16, against the future World Champions, Spain, getting defeated by 1-0.

in the 3rd of July, 2010, Cristiano Ronaldo announced on his facebook page that he had become a father. The information shocked many fans since there's still a big mistery nowadays, on who is the mother of the Cristiano Ronaldo's son. CR7 requested privacy and named his son with his own name, Cristiano Ronaldo Junior. The child is currently in Ronaldo's full custody, while being helped by his mother and sisters.
In the 2010-2011 season, Cristiano Ronaldo had an outstanding personal performance, breaking several all-time records, not only in Real Madrid, but also in the Spanish League. Ronaldo scored 41 goals in La Liga, breaking the previous 38 goal record set by Hugo Sanchez and Telmo Zarra. CR7 scored a total of 54 goals and once again, won the Golden Boot award, beating Lionel Messi in the way, who finished the season with 53 goals. However, not everything was perfect, since Real Madrid only won the Copa del Rey and failed to conquer the Spanish League and the UEFA Champions League.
The 2011-2012 season will always be a memorable one in Real Madrid's history. With Cristiano Ronaldo leading the charge game after game, the Merengues ended with Barcelona's hegemony in Spain and won the Spanish League in a record-breaking fashion. The club reached 100 points that season, the highest ever registered until then, but also broke the record for goals scored, with 121 in 38 games. The Champions League journey ended once more in the semi-finals round, in a penalty shoot-out decision against Bayern Munich. As for the Copa del Rey, Barça knocked out Real Madrid with a 4-3 result on aggregate. Ronaldo had his highest goalscoring season ever, with 60 goals out of 55 games (46 of those goals were scored in La Liga)
.
Following that monumental season, Ronaldo went straight ahead with Portugal into the EURO 2012 that was going to be held in Poland and Ukraine. Unfortunately for the "Lusitanos", the team ended up falling short to the expectations and got knocked out at the semi-finals against Spain, during the penalties shoot-out. Nevertheless, Cristiano Ronaldo has undoubtedly been one of the best players of the tournament, with three goals scored and several great performances that allowed him to earn a well deserved pick for the "UEFA EURO 2012 Team of the Tournament".

On his fourth season wearing a Real Madrid jersey (2012-2013), Ronaldo had nothing left to win in Spain except the Spanish Super Cup. That's precisely the title he started by winning for the Merengues, in August of 2012. The Spanish League adventure didn't go the way everyone expected and Barcelona had a safe and regular campaign, which allowed them to earn a big distance over Real Madrid still very early in the season. The Merengues finished 15 points below Barcelona and would also end up losing the Copa del Rey final to Atletico Madrid. The Champions League brought more of the same for José Mourinho's men, with a third consecutive elimination in the semi-finals, this time at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. But not all was bad that year, since Cristiano Ronaldo ended the season with a perfect record of 55 games and 55 goals, top-goalscorer of the Champions League with 12 goals. As usual, the season ended with a lot of speculation going around about his future...

Stay tuned, because at the end of the 2013-2014 season, we'll update this biography as well as Cristiano Ronaldo life story...

“One Life” nature documentary — it’s always about the kids

NatGeo Wild’s “One Life” nature documentary, premiering Dec. 8, is one gorgeous film. When the narration features the soothing British-accented tones of Daniel Craig (ie. James Bond), the visuals offer incredible micro- close-ups and grand panoramas, sometimes in super-slow=mo, and the over-arching tone is relentlessly upbeat, it’s difficult to turn away. “One Life,” premiering Dec. 8 on NatGeo Wild, makes you feel good about life and the process of living. This project has determined to leave the more topical, downbeat concerns about global warming to others. Instead, it is an unabashed celebration of living things, from birth to the moment when parents pass the torch to a next generation. En route it’s a celebration of film-making in the wild. Stories like the octopus mother who cares for her eggs for weeks while she slowly starves to death, making the ultimate sacrifice for her offspring, illustrate the tone and through-line of the narrative. It’s always about the kids in nature’s forward-moving quest for life. Filmed in 12 countries on every continent and documenting never-before filmed moments of animal life — first complete sequence of humpback whale mating contest (aerials, underwater, topside, practically from dating to smoking a cigarette — it’s a visual gem. Even if the one-note emphasis on hatching/birthing isn’t for everyone, even if the unmitigated optimism about the glory of the critters leaves out valuable information about how mankind has gotten in the way of all that nature, even if there’s much more to the story than this apolitical film. We’ll look for that elsewhere. Source http://blogs.denverpost.com/ostrow/2013/12/05/nat-geo-wilds-one-life/17207/

Eliza Dushku Biography

/
Born Eliza Patricia Dushku December 30, 1980 (1980-12-30) (age 29) Watertown, Massachusetts, United States Occupation Actress Years active 1992–present Early life Dushku was born in Watertown, Massachusetts, the daughter of Philip R. Dushku, an administrator and teacher in the Boston Public Schools, and ex-wife Judith “Judy” (née Rasmussen), a political science professor at Suffolk University in Boston. Dushku’s father is Albanian American and her mother is of Danish and English descent. Dushku attended Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, and graduated from Watertown High School. She was raised a Mormon, the faith of her mother (though she is not actively practicing). She has three older brothers: Aaron, Benjamin (Ben, born February 5, 1976), and Nathaniel (Nate, born June 8, 1977, in Boston, Massachusetts), the latter of whom is a model and actor. Her parents divorced when she was still an infant. In 2005 she visited her father’s family in Albania after being personally invited by the president. While there she also visited the Albanian Community in Kosovo and got an Albanian Eagle tattooed on the back of her neck. Career Early career Dushku came to the attention of casting agents when she was 10. She was chosen at the end of a five month search throughout the United States for the lead role of Alice, playing with Juliette Lewis in the film That Night. In 1993, Dushku landed a role as Pearl alongside Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio in This Boy’s Life, a role that she said opened a lot of doors. The following year, she played the teenage daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies. She also had parts as Paul Reiser’s daughter in Bye Bye, Love, as Cindy Johnson with Halle Berry and Jim Belushi in Race the Sun, as well as roles in a television movie and a short film. Dushku took some time off from acting to finish her junior and senior years of high school. She was accepted to the George Washington University in Washington, DC and Suffolk University in Boston, where her mother serves as professor of government and previously served as dean of the campus in Dakar, Senegal. Later roles After completing high school, Dushku returned to acting with the role of Faith on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a Slayer much more troubled than the main character Buffy Summers. Though initially planned as a five episode role, the character became so popular that she stayed on for the entirety of the third season and returned for a two-part appearance in season four, after which the remainder of her original story arc was played out as part of the first season of the Buffy spin-off series Angel. Repentant and rededicated, Faith returned as a heroine in a number of further episodes of Angel and in the last five episodes of Buffy. Dushku was inundated with piles of fan mail from legions of prisoners. She said that: I’ve been getting fan mail from maximum security penitentiaries and death row. What are the authorities thinking of in playing a show with young teenage girls to Death Row inmates? They write everything — disgusting things that you don’t even want to know about. And they send me pictures — ‘Oh, here’s a picture of me before I was incarcerated!’ — and there’s some guy sat on the sofa with a bottle of beer and a moustache, and a big gut. It’s so creepy. Way more creepy than Buffy. In 2000, Dushku starred in Soul Survivors, reuniting her with Race The Sun co-star Casey Affleck. One reviewer described the film as “84 minutes of everyone’s wasted time.” She followed that up with the hit cheerleader comedy Bring It On with Kirsten Dunst. In 2001, she appeared in The New Guy with DJ Qualls and City by the Sea with Robert De Niro and James Franco. The latter film garnered attention from a wider adult audience and several good reviews. The same year, Kevin Smith invited Dushku to be a part of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, where she co-starred with Shannon Elizabeth, Ali Larter, and Ben Affleck. In 2003, Dushku appeared in Wrong Turn, a horror film in which she had the starring role, and The Kiss, an independent comedy-drama. Starting that same year, she also starred in a new Fox TV series, Tru Calling, where she played the main character, medical student Tru Davies. After having a grant pulled out from under her, Tru is forced to take a job at a local morgue where she discovers her power to “re-live” the previous day over again if one of the deceased asks for her help to change what has happened. Dushku turned down a role in a spin-off of Buffy The Vampire Slayer which would have been about Faith. She has had many roles as a “bad girl” in movies and relishes the opportunities. In an interview with Maxim in May 2001, Dushku says of her roles, “It’s easy to play a bad girl: You just do everything you’ve been told not to do, and you don’t have to deal with the consequences, because it’s only acting.” Dushku starred in an off-Broadway production entitled Dog Sees God from December 2005, playing “Van’s sister”, a character paralleled with Lucy Van Pelt from the original Peanuts comic strip on which the play production is based. She quit in February 2006 along with several other members of the cast among rumours of alleged abuse from the producer, which were later dismissed. She played the lead character on Nurses, a hospital comedy/drama for Fox. This was the second Fox pilot in which she has been cast, but will not be broadcast. She appeared in the Simple Plan music video, “I’m Just a Kid”, as the band’s love interest, as well as Nickelback’s video for “Rockstar”. Dushku has landed starring roles in two video game productions. She voiced the role of Yumi Sawamura in the English language version of Yakuza for the PlayStation 2, which was published and developed by SEGA, and released in September 2006. Dushku also stars as Shaundi, one of the lead characters in Saints Row 2, which was developed by Volition and published by THQ. It was released (in North America) on October 14, 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. She also was the voice talent for the role of Rubi Malone, the main character in the game WET. She appeared at Spike TV’s 2008 Video Game Awards in December 2008. Current projects On October 1, 2005, she announced at Wizard World Boston that shooting had begun for Nobel Son in which she would star with Alan Rickman, Danny DeVito, Bill Pullman, and Peter Boyle. The movie was released at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. Another project is On Broadway, an independent movie filmed in her native Boston. The movie is receiving great reviews and a few of them highlight Dushku’s performance. It is currently being shown in many independent film festivals and has already won six awards. Variety announced on August 2, 2006 that Dushku would co-star with Macaulay Culkin in Sex and Breakfast, a dark comedy written and directed by Miles Brandman. A reviewer described Dushku as “charming” and giving the character “an edge.” The movie was released in Los Angeles in November 30, 2007 and on DVD in January 22, 2008. She starred in Open Graves, a 2008 horror-thriller about a satanic game co-starring Mike Vogel. She will play the main character in The Thacker Case and The Alphabet Killer, both based on real-life events and upcoming thrillers, one of them directed by Rob Schmidt with whom she had previously worked on Wrong Turn. Both movies will be released in 2008. The Alphabet Killer contains Dushku’s first topless scene. The film earned mixed reviews, but reviewers praised Dushku’s performance, commenting “Eliza Dushku commands the screen but cannot reconcile the script’s conflicted and increasingly idiotic agendas.” She also appeared, along with Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Chris Pine and Rachel Taylor, in Bottle Shock, a drama about Napa valley wine. The film was directed by Randall Miller, who helmed Nobel Son. On August 26, 2007, Dushku signed a development deal with Fox Broadcasting and 20th Century Fox. Under the pact, the network and the studio develop projects tailor-made for the actress. They also approach her with existing pitches and scripts. Consequently, it was announced on October 31 that Dushku had lured Joss Whedon, famous for creating the Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly series, back to TV, as they agreed to create a new show called Dollhouse. Dushku played the main character, ‘Echo’, and served as a producer on the show, which aired on Fox during the 2008–09 TV Season. One TV reviewer said Dushku “does wonderful things to a tank top, but her grasp of this vague, personality-changing character is a bit of a muddle.” In an interview, Dushku talked about how Dollhouse, and how her reconnection with Whedon came about: I invited Joss Whedon to lunch after I did the business deal and decided that Fox, we’d had a cool relationship in the past and I wanted to do something else and I wanted to get back into a television show. I had him on the brain for sure but I hadn’t called him yet, but I sort of took a leap of faith and set things up with Fox and then called Joss. We went to a four-hour lunch where I just sort of used my womanly wiles. No, we’ve become such good friends, kind of like brother and sister and kind of like he was my watcher, my handler from when I first moved out to L.A. when I was 17 and I was a little bit of a wild child. He’s watched me and helped me and taught me over the years. I told him how bad I wanted and needed him back and he accepted and here we are. Dushku described Whedon as “my favorite genius … favorite friend … big brother … and the only person out here I’ve ever wholeheartedly trusted, because he’s never let me down.” Dollhouse was renewed for a second season. The producers cited their confidence in the strength of Joss Whedon’s fan base and high DVR numbers as their reasons for keeping the show. FOX cancelled Dollhouse on November 11, 2009. The show officially wrapped filming on the second and final season on December 16, 2009. Dushku has been announced as the voice of contract killer “Rubi Malone” in the upcoming action video game Wet, alongside fellow actors Malcolm McDowell and Alan Cumming. Dushku secured exclusive rights to make “The Perfect Moment” and enlisted the help of Ondi Timoner. Dushku provides her voice for Noah’s Ark: The New Beginning and will also appear in the film Locked In set for release in 2010. Personal life Dushku resides in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, California. Dushku is the CEO of her production company Boston Diva and serves as a producer on her recently released Fox sci-fi series, Dollhouse. She is an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. She had dated former L.A. Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny, but in February 2009 she announced on the Howard Stern radio show that they had broken up. Dushku is currently dating former Los Angeles Lakers star Rick Fox. Awards and nominations She was twice nominated in 2004: for a Teen Choice Award at the Teen Choice Awards for Choice Breakout Star – Female for Tru Calling and for a Saturn Award by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films at the 30th Saturn Awards for Best Actress in a Television Series for Tru Calling. Maxim magazine ranked Dushku 6th on the “Hot 100 Women of 2009″ list. Dushku was nominated in 2009 for a Scream Award at the Scream Awards for Best Science Fiction Actress for her role of Echo. Sapanta Romania | Prezentare informatii turistice despre statiunea Sapanta

Insa Sapanta a devenit cu adevarat cunoscuta in Romania si in strainatate datorita Cimitirului Vesel din localitate.
